Breitbart Journalists Attend Pre-State of the Union Lunch
Matthew Boyle, the Washington Bureau Chief for Breitbart News, confirmed that both he and Editor-in-Chief Alex Marlowe were present at a pre-State of the Union lunch with other journalists. This event took place on Tuesday.
During an interview on the “War Room” with Steve Bannon, Boyle was asked about rumors regarding Breitbart’s attendance at a lunch for broadcast anchors hosted by President Donald Trump. He acknowledged the occasion as “historic.”
Boyle mentioned that discussions revolved around potential U.S. actions toward Iran and the ongoing negotiations in Geneva. He also noted that President Trump is planning to pursue additional tax cuts.
“Yes, that’s true,” Boyle affirmed. “Alex Marlowe and I attended, and we were the only two journalists in the room not affiliated with a television network. While Breitbart has a strong following, we aren’t a TV network, so this moment felt unique.” He added that other media entities such as Newsmax and News Nation were also represented at the luncheon.
Nick Gilbertson, the White House correspondent for Breitbart News, reported that President Trump had invited Marlowe and Boyle to the gathering with several prominent anchors.
Boyle explained that inviting media to lunch has been a tradition for U.S. presidents before delivering their State of the Union address. “They host America’s leading journalists for lunch, where conversations flow freely, often off the record, although parts may get made public.”
White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt expressed her pride in President Trump’s decision to include new media outlets in the annual State of the Union Journalist Luncheon. “The president is pleased to invite new media, like Breitbart, Newsmax, and News Nation, to this significant gathering,” she noted.
