Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz won a primary election on Tuesday with the backing of his arch rival, former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.
McCarthy has spent $3 million on the anti-Gates campaign of Aaron Dimock, a former naval aviator and director of the Missouri Leadership Academy.
Last year, Gaetz, with the help of Democrats, led eight Republicans to oust McCarthy from his position as speaker, sparking a feud between the two men.
This is another defeat for McCarthy’s Revenge tour.

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) defeated a challenger in the most recent primary, highlighting tensions within House Republicans following the ouster of McCarthy last year.
Gaetz won the Republican nomination for Florida’s 1st Congressional District, defeating Aaron Dimock, a former Navy officer and political newcomer who was backed by McCarthy and his allies. Dimock told The Hill ahead of the primary that he had never spoken to the former speaker, but on Tuesday he was running with McCarthy’s backing and more than $3 million in support from a super PAC with ties to McCarthy’s aides.

The Florida primary results marked another defeat for McCarthy’s efforts to retaliate against his Republican opponent after Rep. Nancy Mace of South Carolina, who also voted in favor of impeachment, handily won her state’s primary earlier this year.
