Matt LaFleur and the Packers come to terms on a contract extension after disappointing playoff loss

LaFleur Secures Contract Extension with Packers

Despite the recent NFC Wild Card defeat to the Bears, Matt LaFleur’s tenure in Green Bay isn’t over. Reports from Saturday indicate that the Packers have agreed to extend his contract.

Details of LaFleur’s extension remain unclear, but it’s been noted that it is a multi-year deal, as mentioned by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Initially, there was uncertainty surrounding LaFleur’s future with the team. However, insiders suggested that he wasn’t seriously considering leaving Green Bay.

In addition to LaFleur, the Packers are also expected to offer contract extensions to general manager Brian Gutekunst and executive vice president Russ Ball.

The speculation surrounding LaFleur’s job intensified after the Packers’ 31-27 playoff loss to the Bears. With only one playoff victory in his last five seasons, many wondered if the franchise would choose to part ways with him.

Prior to this extension, he had just one year left on his existing agreement. Team president Ed Policy expressed a dislike for having the coaching staff in a “lame duck” situation.

After the playoff exit, LaFleur emphasized that his primary focus remained on his players, stating he was committed to supporting them fully.

Since taking over as head coach in 2019, LaFleur has achieved a regular season record of 76-40 and led the team to the playoffs six times in seven seasons.

Aaron Rodgers, who spent four seasons under LaFleur, recently praised him, highlighting the success and positive influence he had in Green Bay.

LaFleur expressed gratitude for Rodgers’ kind words, saying it left him “speechless” and considering it one of the finest compliments he’d ever received.
