Matt Lauer's daughter, Romy, 20, crashed her car into a fence and a sign in the Hamptons over Independence Weekend, Page Six has learned, but the college student left her license plate at the scene for local police to find.
Sources told Page Six that the license plate on Romy's Jeep Wrangler came off during the collision, and Southampton Town Police were later able to identify the former “Today” host's daughter.
Police confirmed that Lauer and his ex-wife, model Annette Roque's daughter, had received summonses for fleeing the scene of an accident.
Another source said fines have been imposed and that top local attorney Edward Burke Jr. “is now involved in the case and working with the court to resolve it on Mr. Lauer's behalf.”
Burke's famous clients include Justin Timberlake, and he has previously represented VIPs such as Matt Lauer, Lizzy Grubman and Jason Kidd.
Sources said the crash happened around 4 a.m. on July 5 on North Sea Mecox Road when a neighbor who heard a loud noise called 911 and expressed concern someone may have been hurt.
When police arrived, a fence and sign had been knocked down, but the driver reportedly fled the scene, leaving behind his license plate number.
On the evening of July 4th, Romy posted a TikTok video of herself and two friends dining at Kisaki, a sushi restaurant near Water Mill.

Romy was last in the news in 2019 when her father appeared on her social media feeds in a series of singing and dancing videos. This was her first time in the public eye after he was fired from his high-profile anchor job on NBC's “Today” following allegations of “inappropriate sexual behavior.”
Lauer and Roque married in October 1998.
She filed for divorce in 2006, citing “cruel and inhuman” conduct, but later withdrew the filing.
The pair later split in 2017 as Lauer faced numerous allegations.
They filed uncontested divorce papers in July 2019, and the multimillion-dollar settlement included Roque getting the Hamptons horse ranch in Water Mill.
Like Roque, Romy is an avid equestrian and has competed in the Hampton Classic. Lauer and Roque also have two sons, Jack, 23, and Tyce, 17.
A representative for Matt Lauer did not immediately comment.
