The offseason was once again brought into the public eye by Matthew Judon’s unhappiness with his contract with the Patriots.
The star linebacker is in the final season of his contract with New England, and drama reportedly flared up at practice on Monday.
NBC Sports Boston cameras captured a uniformless Judon exchanging words with head coach Jerrod Mayo.
Judon left the practice field looking excited.
Later, the media’s reporter Phil Perry said, I wrote to X Judon has returned to the field and has been in “active discussions” with front office executives Elliott Wolf and Matt Groh.
NESN’s Zack Cox Called it A “very strange” series of events.
Judon began posting cryptic comments about his situation with the Patriots earlier this month, at one point even reposting a trade proposal to move to the 49ers for wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, who is also unhappy with his contract.
Mayo told reporters last week that Judon’s dissatisfaction with his contract didn’t affect his effort in camp.
“[H]”I work here every day,” Mayo said. Reported by ProFootballTalk“His attitude in the classroom is great, his attitude on the field is great. You see him flying around here. Obviously, there’s a business element to this sport and he understands that. We want to have him here. He’s a very good player for us. He does everything we want him to do, so we hope it works out.”
Judon played in just four games last season due to injury, but prior to that he had been selected to the Pro Bowl for four consecutive years.
He recorded 15.5 sacks in 2022.
