Matthew McConaughey discloses the intimate tip that strengthened his marriage

Big Isn’t Always Better

In his latest book, actor Matthew McConaughey shares how downsizing his bed has strengthened his marriage with Camila Alves, his wife of 13 years. He reflects on this in an entry titled “The Best Thing You Can Do for a Marriage” in “Poems & Prayers.”

One suggested change? Switching from a king-sized mattress to a more intimate queen-sized bed.

McConaughey spoke with Fox News Digital about this decision, noting the importance of shared space in a relationship. “We have kids and go to a friend’s house, where everyone sleeps in a huge bed together. My wife has her side at the table, and I have mine,” he said. But as the kids grow, things get cramped, and he recalls waking up to find Alves on the far side of their large bed.

“We got a queen-sized bed, shoulder to shoulder,” he explained. He believes this adjustment has positively impacted his marriage. “I’m telling you, that’s good for your marriage,” he added.

McConaughey humorously described how he once woke up and saw Alves sprawled out beside him, likening it to a bustling soccer field. He expressed that having a big bed can, in fact, be a downside for relationships. By switching to a queen bed, there’s less space for the kids to crowd in too.

The couple, married since 2012, celebrated their 13th anniversary in June and have three children: a 17-year-old son, Levi, and a 12-year-old daughter, Vida. In a past interview, they shared another insight into their long-lasting relationship, revealing their unique way of resolving arguments: by treating one another to something sweet.

“Sweet treats can ease tensions,” he elaborated, “whether it’s chocolate or ice cream, it really helps.” This approach seems to work well for them, as they navigate the ups and downs of family life.
