Matthew McConaughey Marks Arrest Anniversary Uniquely

Matthew McConaughey is celebrating the anniversary of his arrest in a rather unconventional manner. The 55-year-old actor, alongside his wife Camila Alves and their tequila brand, Pantalones Organic Tequila, hosted a dramatic reading of his arrest report.

“If wearing a birthday suit and playing the bongos makes your anniversary worth raising a glass to, then I’ll pour you a Pantalone and toast,” McConaughey mentioned.

The video intro was narrated by voice actor Steve Zahnkilton, well known for his work in the “Law & Order” series.

McConaughey first shared this story in his memoir “Greenlights,” detailing the events of October 1999. After celebrating a Texas Longhorns victory over the Nebraska Cornhuskers, he described how he celebrated throughout that weekend. At a certain point, he thought, “It’s time to relax,” leading to a rather, um, spirited evening.

He recounted, “At 2:30 that Monday morning, I finally decided to dim the lights, take off my clothes, open the windows, and bring the scent of jasmine from the garden inside.” Sounds cozy, right? But things took a turn. “What I didn’t know was that while I was thrashing around in bliss, two Austin police officers also decided it was time to barge into my home without warning,” he wrote.

He was charged with “disturbing the peace, possession of marijuana, and resisting arrest.” Camila commented, “Only Matthew could turn a night like that into a night of celebration with tequila.” Quite the perspective, I think.

Alongside the reading, they also introduced a new signature cocktail, “Pantsless and Famous,” a playful twist on “Naked and Famous,” fitting perfectly with their brand’s motto: “The official tequila that marches to the beat of your own.”

McConaughey and Alves co-founded their tequila company back in October 2023. To promote it, they’ve released ads featuring playful situations, like playing pickleball and doing laundry—both, notably, without pants.

In a recent press release, the couple shared their view: “We’re all about tequila, not pants.” They indicated a shift in how people perceive tequila lately, likening its snobbery to that of wine. They emphasized that tequila is about enjoyment first and foremost, which is why they’ve embraced a laid-back approach with their brand. It’s intriguing how they connect fun with the experience of drinking tequila.
