Stafford Shines in Rams’ Victory Over Jaguars
Matthew Stafford delivered an impressive performance as the Los Angeles Rams defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars, 35-7, in London. This game marked a significant milestone for Stafford, who became the first NFL quarterback to throw five touchdown passes in an international matchup.
In total, he connected with veteran wide receiver Davante Adams three times for touchdowns, and also found rookies Terrence Ferguson and Konata Mampfield for two more scores. Specifically, Stafford completed 21 of 33 attempts, racking up 182 passing yards without any interceptions or sacks. It’s worth noting that this was the fifth time in his career he’s thrown five touchdown passes in a single regular-season game; the last time was back on November 26, 2015, against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Adams himself had a solid day, with five receptions for 35 yards. The Rams quickly established dominance, leading 21-0 at halftime. However, in the second half, the Jaguars seemed to have figured some things out, making it tougher for Stafford and the Rams to maintain their momentum. After the halftime break, Los Angeles managed just 13 plays and had to punt the ball four times.
The Jaguars struggled to turn their defensive stops into points. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence’s efforts to move the ball often fell short, including a 10-play drive that ended with an incomplete pass on fourth down. They also had a seven-play drive that concluded with a turnover on downs. Those missed opportunities were crucial and really hampered Jacksonville’s chances.
Lawrence did manage to connect with Travis Hunter for a 34-yard touchdown late in the game, but it was too little, too late. He finished with 23 completions on 48 attempts for 296 yards and a touchdown, while the Rams’ defense was relentless, sacking him seven times. Nate Landman and Byron Young each contributed to the sack count with 1.5 apiece.
Hunter led the Jaguars receiving corps with eight catches for 101 yards. Meanwhile, in another notable moment, Rams’ tight end Terrence Ferguson grabbed a touchdown during the second half as Los Angeles sealed their win.
With this victory, the Rams improved their record to 5-2, while the Jaguars fell to 4-2.
