The Rams and quarterback Matthew Stafford agreed to a contract adjustment just before the start of training camp last week, meaning Stafford will receive a slight salary increase this season.
Stafford is set to receive more compensation this season and a larger roster bonus next offseason. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
The quarterback is set to receive $5 million more up front this season and his roster bonus will increase from $5 million to $9 million in the 2025 offseason, with the upfront bonus coming in the second half of the contract.
The revised agreement is not an extension.
Things came together on Tuesday after Stafford told the Rams he wanted more guaranteed money in the contract he signed for 2022.
Before the contract change, Stafford was expected to make $31 million this season with no guaranteed income beyond that.
If no deal was reached by camp, Stafford seemed prepared to hold off or wait it out.
On Wednesday, the quarterback expressed excitement about being back on the field.
“I’m happy to be where I am,” Stafford said. According to the Los Angeles Times“I’m happy to be here. I’m happy to be playing. I’m excited to play football this year. That’s the most important thing to me.”

But he wouldn’t elaborate on his feelings about the uncertainty of whether that would happen.
“I have a pretty stressful job, so I’m used to that kind of stuff,” Stafford said. “I’m not interested in reliving those feelings here and there, but I am interested in getting behind this team and playing another season with these guys.”
Stafford is coming off a season in which he threw for 3,965 yards, 24 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
