Matthew Stafford, the Rams quarterback, boasts a collection that includes a LeBron James jersey, a Michael Jordan jersey, and a good amount of Clayton Kershaw memorabilia.
However, he recently mentioned in an interview that the standout piece in his sports memorabilia collection is a baseball signed by Shohei Ohtani, which he received a few months ago.
Stafford shared a touching anecdote regarding a birthday gift he received: “I had a friend who gave me a really nice birthday present this year. It said, ‘To Matthew: Congratulations on being the MVP,’ signed by Shohei Ohtani. I thought that was really nice.” The revelation came while he was filming a commercial for Topps that focused on trading cards.
During a break from the shoot, he reflected on his past collecting habits, saying, “I had a big old binder up my sleeve full of baseball and football cards,” although he admitted he lost them over time.
These days, he’s keen on picking up souvenirs whenever possible. Stafford emphasized Ohtani’s uniqueness in baseball and expressed the excitement he felt over the signed ball. He added, humorously, how he recently tried to give back by donating an autographed football, joking that “then his dog can fetch it in the yard and play with it.”
Stafford’s memorabilia collection isn’t just limited to jerseys from icons like James, Jordan, and Kershaw; it also includes a jersey from Josh Allen and several other NFL players. However, he still has his eye on one particular item related to his father’s legacy.
He noted, “My dad was a huge Cleveland Browns fan, and Jim Brown was a guy my dad used to talk to me about. And he’s a cool guy. So I’m going to try and get one of those guys.”
