But Kelly came up with an epic plan to finally unite her with her future husband.

“I dated a reserve guy to piss him off, and it worked, because he was a bad boy too,” Kelly revealed. “Matthew is a very sweet guy, a Southern gentleman and all that stuff, and the reserve guy was the complete opposite and pissed him off.”

Not only were they both quarterbacks, but they were also roommates, according to Kelly.

“Athletes lived in the same dorm rooms, so they lived in the same dorm room. He saw my car there. At one point, he was waiting and he followed me to my car. I was like, ‘This is amazing, this is going well,’ and I said, ‘Get out of my car.’ He said, ‘He’s not right for you.’ I was like, ‘What? I can’t say that,'” she said.

It’s unclear who Kelly is referring to, but during Stafford’s time at Georgia (2006-08), he played in front of Joe Tereshinski, Joe Cox, AJ Bryant and Mohamed Massaqui, with Cox being the only one to be there during all three of Stafford’s seasons at Georgia.

Kelly appears to have made the right choice. Stafford was the No. 1 pick in the 2009 draft and was consistently one of the more underrated quarterbacks in the league. Playing for the lowly Detroit Lions at the time didn’t help Stafford’s chances.

He finally got the recognition he deserved after winning Super Bowl 56 with the Los Angeles Rams.
