Mavericks great Dirk Nowitzki: ‘Weird’ seeing Luka Doncic with Lakers

Dallas Mavericks legend Dark Nowicki was on a family holiday when news of the earthquake Luke Donsick Anthony Davis trade broke, but he quickly learned about it.

“When I saw the news, I was actually on the other side of the world. I was on a holiday with my family in the Maldives. When I got back, my phone started exploding,” Nowicki said. I said this while appearing 96.7 Ticket Stock event.

Nowicki and Donsic overlapped in Dallas for a season and formed a strong relationship. He said he texted after trade fell.

“It was obviously back home, obviously Luka, we texted a little. I felt a little disappointed and sad about him. He clearly didn't see this coming. And I felt like I had to support him,” Nowicki said.

“I played with him last season. We got closer. I tried to coach him. I tried to help him as much as I could in the last few years.”

Mavericks fans were hoping Don Sic would stay in Dallas for his entire career and become like the superstar Nowicki, who won the title for them.

Donsic, like a Mavericks fan, was “disappointed” by the deal. Nowiczki took part in Don Sic's first game with the Los Angeles Lakers to support Don Sic rather than the Lakers.

“He's a good kid, so I felt like I had to support him in this new chapter. He was reportedly disappointed by how it went down quite a bit. I wanted to be there for him, to be there for his family and show support,” Nowicki said.

“You guys saw my face. It was weird. It was surreal to see him play for the Lakers. I'll never be a Lakers fan, but I always do. You have to be a Luka fan.”

The Mavericks' Don Chic trade return was Anthony Davis. Davis injured the gro caliber in one of his first games with the Mavericks and has been out ever since.

The Mavericks and Lakers are scheduled to face off for the first time since trading on Tuesday, February 25th at 10pm ET.
