Max Fried Updates on Injury Progress
Atlanta – When Max Fried returned to his former home, it was his pitching hand that caught everyone’s attention, not his arm.
The Yankees ace reported that the blister on his left index finger, which flared up on Saturday, is showing signs of improvement.
“It’s definitely getting better,” Fried mentioned during Monday’s All-Star media availability. “We’ll see if we can make the most out of this break… We’ll take it day by day.”
Regarding the timing of the blister, Fried noted that missing the game on Tuesday will at least give him some encouragement, allowing him to rest and return to the rotation after a short break. This should hopefully give him some extra days to heal.
“If there was ever a good time for this injury, it’s now,” Fried said.
However, he didn’t clearly state whether he might need to go on the injured list.
Fried remarked that he’s experienced a lot with blisters over his four seasons with the Braves and has learned how to manage them, which is certainly valuable.
It’s unfortunate timing for a pitcher who could otherwise be in great spirits.
Back at Truist Park, where he spent eight seasons with the Braves, Fried expressed how special it felt to return. “It’s really nice to see familiar faces again,” he shared, reflecting on his first season in the Bronx. “I’m excited to embrace this experience.”
American League manager Aaron Boone discussed Gleyber Torres from the Tigers, highlighting him as the leadoff hitter.
“He’s had an impressive year with the Tigers, boasting the best record in the American League so far,” Boone stated, praising his former player for being a key contributor. “He sets the tone at the top of the lineup.”
Torres has a career-high .387 on-base percentage this season, which has really made a difference for the team.
Following Torres in the batting order will be Aaron Judge and Riley Greene, with Cal Lowry rounding out the lineup.
Shohei Ohtani is set to lead on the National League side.
In a discussion led by ESPN’s Pat McAfee, which included Dodgers/NL Manager Dave Roberts, the topic of MLB’s decision to reward Atlanta after previously taking the All-Star game away in response to state laws was raised.
While McAfee tried to sidestep the issue by praising Atlanta, Roberts supported the MLB’s decision from four years ago, stating, “I’m excited to be here, and I think it’s a great city. The fans here are enthusiastic about celebrating these exceptional athletes. I’m not a politician.”
