Max Homa: “I want to beat his ass,” Scottie Scheffler earns highest honor

Max Homa will be in contention on Sunday at the Masters for the first time in his professional career. The previous blow that plagued him was his underwhelming performance in the majors in the past.

Although he fell just short of the Green Jackets, Homa feels relieved that he was able to prove he can compete at the highest level.

Ahead of this week’s RBC Heritage, Homa offered a takeaway including his thoughts on the difference between Scottie Scheffler and the rest of the players on the PGA Tour.

“That gap seems pretty big. He’s gone first, then next, then first. Three of these events are the best fields we have. One of them is , another good field on a very difficult golf course.”

Homa must have forgotten about his win at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. But his argument resonates.

One of the stories surrounding Scheffler was the birth of his first child. The world number one admitted he would withdraw from the tournament if his wife Meredith went into labor.

Mr Homa was therefore asked whether he supports compulsory three-month parental leave.

“No, I’d like to pretty much beat his ass someday. So I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t thinking about last week at all if Meredith went into labor.” Homa said cheerfully.

“The advantage of this is you want to beat the best players at their best. It’s both fun and tough.”

In fact, Scheffler is the best golfer in the world, and he’s nowhere near that. The New Jersey native is accomplishing something not seen since Tiger Woods in his prime. He is also only 27 years old, so there is no end in sight.

Still, Homa is confident in his ability to fight his game after his best performance in the majors.

“It confirms that my golf game is good enough. I think most people who play in the majors are. But you don’t know until you feel it.”

Homa and Scheffler will play this week in Hilton Head.
