Max Verstappen’s Future in F1 Under Scrutiny
Death, taxes, and speculation about Max Verstappen’s future in F1—seems like a constant, right?
Recently, the conversation has shifted heavily toward Verstappen’s role at Red Bull, especially after some challenging moments this season. Despite his hopes for a podium finish, crashes during qualifying at the Austrian Grand Prix and at the end of the British Grand Prix mean he won’t be advancing in the driver standings before the impending summer break following the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Reports suggest that this situation could activate a clause in his Red Bull contract, potentially allowing him to race in the 2027 season. Add in the usual frenzy of the upcoming F1 driver transfer window, and you can feel the chatter intensifying ahead of this weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix.
His manager, Raymond Vermeulen, has recently tried to quell the swirling rumors. On Thursday, fans and analysts were eager to hear from Verstappen himself as he prepared for the Belgian Grand Prix. He’s made it clear that his focus is on the present, mostly concerning the current season and his ongoing stint with Red Bull.
When asked about the speculation at a press conference, he stated, “I have nothing to say. I don’t want to confirm or deny anything about the future. I’ve said before that I’ll speak up when there’s something new.”
Verstappen also discussed his recent experiences, describing how he’s working to strengthen his relationship with the team. “Right now, we’re looking to the future and addressing the issues with the car. It’s an ongoing discussion,” he mentioned. “Sure, I get a bit disappointed after races sometimes, but after events like Silverstone, I just go home and reset.”
“By Wednesday, I’m back at the factory preparing for another weekend. This is just how I’ve approached my career. Some years are tougher than others, but my mindset and our teamwork have remained constant.”
As part of tackling specific challenges, the focus is definitely on the RB22’s rear wing. Dubbed the “Macarena” wing by the media, it has been pinpointed as a key factor in Verstappen’s recent high-speed crashes. After his Silverstone crash, he described the scenario as “extremely dangerous.” The team is contemplating their next steps and is reportedly set to table certain components for this weekend’s race.
Still, Verstappen remained firm in his comments about his future away from Spa, asserting that “Red Bull is like a second family to me.”
