Maxine Dexter Participates in Sing-Along with Seniors in Portland

On Monday, Rep. Maxine Dexter (D-Oregon) joined a group of seniors in Portland and played “This Land is Your Land” on the ukulele, a well-known folk song by Woody Guthrie that carries a socialist message and has roots in left-wing protests.

Dexter shared a video of the event on social media with a caption that declared, “This land belongs to all of us. This is not a combat zone, it’s homeland. Trump cannot take it from us.” The clip showcased her strumming her ukulele while singing alongside senior participants, repeating familiar lyrics about the land’s shared ownership from the iconic 1940 song.

Nearby, demonstrators held signs with messages supporting Ukraine and NATO, calling for the protection of democracy.

The song, written by Guthrie as a direct response to Irving Berlin’s “God Bless America,” emerged in the early 1940s as an anthem against private property and in favor of collective ideals. It includes lines reflecting on barriers to access due to private property signs, emphasizing that the land is meant for everyone. Guthrie, who often aligned with far-left movements, was known for his participation in Communist events.

The significance of the song continues among today’s Democrats. In 2021, Senator Ed Markey (D-Massachusetts) and members of the “Squad” led a group outside the Capitol in singing the anthem, labeling Guthrie as a “socialist” and “communist.” His daughter, Nora, supported the politicians’ use of the song while expressing disapproval over conservatives quoting its lyrics.

Dexter’s appearance at the Portland event comes amidst rising tensions in the city following President Donald Trump’s approval for National Guard assistance aimed at safeguarding federal and immigration facilities from riots allegedly tied to Antifa. Oregon authorities had previously taken legal action to prevent Texas from deploying its National Guard members in the state after a federal judge restricted President Trump from calling up Oregon troops.

During the same time, Trump faced criticism from Democratic leaders in places like Portland and Chicago, claiming they were trying to incite crime, labeling cities as “scorching hell holes.”

Dexter, serving her first term, made headlines earlier in the year with her impassioned remarks at a Capitol rally, where she emphatically stated, “We have to fuck Trump!” while opposing cuts to federal employees proposed by the Trump administration.

Look — “We have to fuck Trump!” Awkward attempt by Democrats to blame President Trump:

In April, Dexter traveled to El Salvador with several other House Democrats to advocate for the release of a deported gang member. During the trip, she characterized President Trump’s actions as “illegally abducting” the individual, calling the situation a “constitutional crisis.”

Reports later revealed that the Democratic delegation stayed at a luxury hotel during their visit and that Dexter’s leadership PAC contributed substantial funds to the House’s campaign efforts shortly after the trip. The National Republican Congressional Committee criticized these contributions, saying they were “radical” in relation to the release of gang suspects.
