Maxine Waters lauds Harris-Walz ticket as 'opportunity for transformation'

Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., said Wednesday she believes the Harris-Waltz campaign will be a transformative blessing for America, adding that the pair are already lifting “the dark clouds that have hung over this country.”

“[Walz] “When she said the word ‘joy,’ I thought it struck me, because I felt like there was a dark shadow hanging over our country,” Waters told NewsNation’s Chris Cuomo, referencing a speech Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) gave at Harris’ first rally as vice presidential candidate in Philadelphia earlier this week.

“There was a public sentiment that something was wrong with our democracy, that our democracy was in danger, and a small minority of people were beginning to believe that our democracy was under attack,” she said.

“I believe there is a certain joy in believing that there is an opportunity for change,” Waters added.

Waltz is Positive Message President Trump addressed the nation for the first time on Tuesday, opening by thanking Harris for “bringing the joy back.”

The North Star State governor also blasted former President Trump and his running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), calling his opponents “freaks as hell” — a moniker adopted by many in Harris’ campaign to refer to both Sen. Vance and former President Trump.

Her team quickly stoked enthusiasm among Democrats, breaking fundraising records and holding rallies with supporters across the country. And Biden has nearly erased the lead Trump held over President Joe Biden, who dropped out of the race last month, with the two candidates roughly neck and neck in the latest polls.

Harris’ campaign said her rally in Detroit on Wednesday evening was the largest of her campaign’s so far, and that more than $36 million had been raised in the 24 hours since Walz was named the Democratic vice presidential nominee.

Trump is leading Harris narrowly nationally, 47.4% to 47.2%, according to The Hill/Decision Desk polling average.
