Democrats Seek Universal Health Care Amidst Funding Discussions
On Tuesday, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) stated that Democrats will “request health care from everyone” as they navigate the ongoing resolution (CR) bill.
A reporter inquired if this meant that Democrats were asking for health care for undocumented immigrants. Waters affirmed, saying, “The Democrats demand health care from everyone.”
In related updates, Republicans have claimed that the continuing resolution they support is straightforward—a clean measure without new programs. However, Democrats have framed it as a political statement aimed at Republicans.
“They want to create a political narrative against the Republicans, so they’re invoking this situation repeatedly,” one Republican commentator remarked during an appearance on Breitbart News Daily.
They add that the GOP’s position is clear: maintaining government funding and progress through continuing resolutions is possible, just as Democrats have done under Biden’s administration.
Reportedly, 44 Senate Democrats are poised to vote to block proposed spending plans just hours before a critical funding deadline, threatening a government shutdown—the first since 2013.
There seems to be a belief that this strategy could resonate with certain factions within the party, seeking to challenge President Donald Trump’s administration, albeit temporarily. Yet, many argue there’s little incentive for Republicans to compromise with Democrats, casting doubt on the possibility of avoiding a government shutdown. The anticipated fallout could have lasting repercussions for the Democratic Party.
