Maxx Crosby Shares His Unforgettable Journey
Maxx Crosby recounted the whirlwind experience that transitioned him from nearly becoming a Baltimore Raven to fully embracing his role with the Las Vegas Raiders. It all began with a failed contract that had the star edge rusher on the move.
This unexpected turn of events caught significant attention last week, especially as Crosby shared his perspective during the premiere of “The Rush with Maxx Crosby.” He described the entire situation as perhaps the most unique and chaotic he has ever encountered.
“Life has thrown me some serious challenges, but this was a roller coaster of emotions,” he mentioned during the show aired on Tuesday.
Last Monday, at age 28, Crosby landed in Washington, D.C., and after a two-hour drive, he arrived at the Ravens’ facility for a medical check-up on March 10.
Having undergone surgery for a torn meniscus in January, he wasn’t expected to face setbacks in his 2026 season.
Interestingly, Crosby didn’t meet Ravens head coach Jesse Minter until after his physical. He also hadn’t met general manager Eric DeCosta, commenting, “It felt odd. I asked, ‘Where’s Eric?’ But he was busy for five hours.”
The awkwardness lingered even during his briefing with Minter. Crosby, feeling drained, noticed Minter’s blank expression when he greeted him. It struck him as unusual. “Maybe he’s just different,” he thought to himself.
Then, things took a turn when the Ravens made headlines announcing that one of their doctors had “concerns” over the physical results, raising doubts about Crosby’s future.
Crosby, taken aback, returned to his hotel and called his agent, CJ Lavoie, and surgeon Neil El-Atrache. “Getting his insight calmed me down. He reassured me that I was right where I needed to be and even ahead of schedule,” Crosby recalled.
El-Atrache showed him literature detailing recovery expectations post-meniscal repair, assuring him that everything was fine and that he would be ready for training camp.
While anxiously awaiting the Ravens’ decision, Crosby received a call from a team employee about ongoing negotiations between Las Vegas and Baltimore regarding his trade.
Moments later, Lavoie informed Crosby that the Ravens had opted out of the deal. “I was stunned. I thought, ‘Oh my god,’ feeling a mix of anger and confusion,” he reflected. “I really needed to leave that place.”
Upon returning to Vegas, Crosby found himself grappling with these sudden changes but also felt a renewed commitment to the Raiders. This sentiment resonated during his podcast discussion.
“It feels like I was never meant to go to Baltimore. I was destined to be a Raider, and that’s something I deeply believe,” he stated. “I’m committed to this team for the long haul. In this league, one can never be sure, but I’ve truly convinced myself that I’m meant to be here.”
