Raiders Face Giants Without Key Players in Crucial Matchup

The Las Vegas Raiders will be missing two of their standout players in an important game that could determine who secures the No. 1 overall pick in next April’s draft.

This Sunday, the New York Giants will travel west to face the Raiders in a matchup highlighting the battle for second and thirteenth places. Currently, the Giants hold the No. 1 pick, but that could change if the Raiders manage to win.

Earlier this week, tight end Brock Bowers was placed on injured reserve, effectively ending his season. Shortly after, defensive end Maxx Crosby was also deemed unavailable due to a knee injury.

NFL reporter Jay Glazer noted that Crosby had stated he didn’t focus on the No. 1 pick but left the team’s facility later that week, expressing disagreement with his situation for the remainder of the season.

There was an attempt by the Raiders’ management to ensure Crosby would remain in the lineup for the last two regular-season games. However, Crosby was said to have “vehemently opposed” this idea, leaving the facility afterward. A Pro Bowler for the last five seasons, Crosby has participated in all 15 games this year and accumulated 10.0 sacks.

Crosby expressed his commitment to excellence, telling reporters, “I’m not playing for that. My job is to be the best defensive end in the world.” He emphasizes focusing on leadership and impact rather than the decisions made by the front office. “I’ve learned in the past that you can’t control everything, and that’s not my job description,” he added.

Winning the first overall pick would give the Raiders an opportunity to select the top quarterback in the class, especially since Geno Smith doesn’t seem to be a long-term solution for the team.

On the other hand, the Giants might have found their franchise quarterback in Jackson Dart, which could lead them to trade back if they retain the pick.

The game is scheduled for Sunday at 4:05 p.m. ET.
