This Sunday, the rivalry between Maxx Crosby and Patrick Mahomes is set to intensify, as it marks their first meeting with both players enjoying an undefeated record.
When asked about their upcoming clash, both Crosby and Mahomes expressed enthusiasm for the competition.
Crosby shared, “It’s been a long time since we’ve really got to go, and I know we’re both looking forward to it. I respect the s— out of him. He knows what it is; it’s war.”
Meanwhile, Mahomes, while acknowledging the rivalry, referenced a past exchange during a 2022 game. He told reporters, “I’m here,” which brought up a memorable moment from a Netflix show where he had taunted Crosby after leading a comeback against the Raiders.
After Mahomes threw a touchdown pass that gave Kansas City the lead, he ran by Crosby, repeating, “I’m here all day” several times.
The tension escalated when Mahomes and Crosby met in the end zone, with Crosby reportedly hearing Mahomes say, “You messed with the wrong motherf—er.” The sentiments reflect a competitive spirit that resonates with the dynamic between friends trying to one-up each other.
Mahomes remarked, “I think it’s just being competitors. It’s almost like whenever you’re young and you’re competing with one of your friends, man. You want to win because you have those bragging rights.”
The last encounter between the Chiefs and Raiders ended with the Raiders winning a close Week 18 game, but neither Crosby nor Mahomes participated.
Speaking of injuries, Crosby underwent knee surgery but appears to be back in form, having recorded 1.5 sacks and several tackles this season. On the other side, Mahomes, coming off a torn ACL, has been performing well, throwing for 812 yards, with 7 touchdowns and 2 interceptions, showcasing a solid completion percentage in his first three games.
As both players prepare to enhance their friendly rivalry, fans will have to wait until their matchup kicks off at 1:25 p.m. this Sunday.
