Mayor Eric Adams is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, but he became the first sitting mayor in New York history to be charged with a crime.
The indictment alleges that Mayor Adams received $10 million in illegal donations and bribes. U.S. prosecutors allege he solicited and accepted gifts and donations from wealthy foreign businessmen, including Turkish government officials.
Adams has pushed back against the allegations, claiming he is being targeted for speaking out against the Biden administration.
“Right now, I believe the federal government intends to charge me with a crime. If they do, these charges will be completely false and based on lies. But they are not surprising. I never would. I always knew that if I stood my ground for all of you, I would become a target, and I would become a target myself,” Adams said in a statement following the accusations.
“For months, leaks and rumors have been directed at me in an attempt to undermine my credibility and make it look like I'm guilty. Just last week, they searched for documents from 20 years ago. “We raided the new police chief's house just a week after he joined my administration,” he continued.
Jill Savage of “Blaze News Tonight” said he was referring to Adams “vehemently opposing the Biden-Harris border crisis” that is “destroying New York City.” He points out that this is likely to be the case when he mentioned it.
“The Josh Hammer Show” host Josh Hammer told Savage and Matthew Peterson that he believed Adams was in “extreme doo-doo.”
“He's going to have to make a choice to get through this or resign,” Hammer said, adding, “Right now, it looks like he's going to keep fighting.”
