New York City Mayor Eric Adams has blamed the current political predicament on racism, saying that criticism of his efforts as mayor is that his administration is primarily made up of people of color (POC). He argued that this stems from the fact that

Mr. Adams (D.N.Y.), who is struggling to deal with the city’s unprecedented flood of illegal immigrants, is currently the subject of an FBI investigation into his mayoral campaign.

Late last week at Brooklyn City Hall, Adams claimed he was facing criticism similar to “what David Dinkins went through” as New York City’s first black mayor.

“We’re moving the needle forward,” Adams said. “What else needs to be done? Exactly, and this dedicated team is getting it done.”

Later in his speech, he pointed out that five of the deputy mayors happen to be women and POC. Sheena Wright, Ann Williams-Isom, Meera Joshi, Ana Almanzar, and Maria Torres-Springer are Adams’ deputy mayors.

“Stand up, stand up. They need to see you,” Adams said, calling out to each person one by one.

“Have you ever seen this much lead in chocolate on the streets of New York?” Adams said to the crowd. “And walk along that line. Look who’s here. This represents this city. That’s why people hate me. Understand why I’m hated. Are you trying to do that?”

Mr. Adams also equated his leadership as mayor of New York to the Biblical story of Jesus entering the temple. But he did not say what groups were accusing him.

“How many of you go to church?” Adams told those in attendance. “This is a Matthew 21 and his 12 moment. Jesus walked in the temple and saw them doing bad things in the temple. What did he do?” Adams continued. Ta.

“I went to City Hall to flip the table.”

Matthew 21:12 says, “Jesus entered the temple court and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves.” NIV translation)

Then the mayor began talking a second time about how diverse his administration is.

“The first female police chief of color. The first Spanish-speaking police chief. The first Spanish-speaking corrections commissioner. Please accomplish what we are doing within two years.”

Mr. Adams then took a different turn, claiming that former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani (New York, NY) benefited from his predecessor’s legislation, and ended his reign with former New York City Mayor David Dinkins (New York, NY). State). ).

“It’s been 30 years since they went to David Dinkins, but who could we have gotten after David Dinkins? Giuliani,” Adams said. “It was preparation for a setback, that was the truth.

“And you know what happened to David Dinkins? They wore him out so bad that black people didn’t come out to vote. They said, ‘Look, you’re not coming out anymore.’ . They just beat him over and over again and wore him out,” Adams continued.

“David Dinkins is the man who passed the Safe Cities, Safe Streets Act, which ensured we had the resources we needed to reduce crime in our cities. , who benefited from that? Giuliani. Giuliani.”
