Mayor Eric Adams Opens Brooklyn Campaign Office

On Thursday, Mayor Eric Adams inaugurated his new campaign office in Brooklyn, furthering his efforts for re-election in a bustling political environment.

A crowd of enthusiastic supporters gathered outside the unassuming Millbane office, located between a smoke shop and a Chinese restaurant. A sign reading “Reelection of Eric” marked the occasion.

“Why Brooklyn?” Adams posed this question to the audience on Avenue T, near East 58th Avenue.

Among the attendees were former aides, city union representatives, and Adams’ brother, Bernard Adams. They mentioned that this office is just the first of several planned in five districts.

This event was the second significant occurrence in Adams’ re-election campaign this week.

Running as an independent in the upcoming November race, Adams opted not to seek a Democratic nomination earlier this week. He has transitioned from being a faith leader in the city to a figure aiming for increased approval, as evident from his event in front of City Hall.

However, Adams faced a setback on Wednesday when the city’s Campaign Finance Committee (CFB) denied him access to public matching funds once again.

Since December, Adams and the CFB have been embroiled in conflicts, with the committee continuously excluding him from the funding program. They cite his alleged violations during the 2021 campaign, requesting information that has led to ongoing investigations.

Recent polls indicate that Adams has garnered only 7% of the anticipated votes, significantly trailing behind former Governor Andrew Cuomo and Mamdani, two Democratic contenders.

Despite the challenges, Adams took a defiant stance on Thursday.

“In 2021, they counted us out when we trailed Andrew Yang by 13 points,” he recalled. “But I knew something others didn’t—I knew people.”

Adams also downplayed the recent CFB denial when addressing reporters after the announcement.

“Denials have never deterred me. I’m focused on breaking through,” he asserted.
