Minneapolis Mayor Demands ICE Leave Following Fatal Shooting

The mayor of Minneapolis, known for his progressive stance, is calling for federal immigration agents to exit the city. This comes after a tragic incident where a woman was shot and killed while allegedly trying to interfere with an operation by immigration enforcement.

Democratic-Farmer-Labor Mayor Jacob Frey issued a passionate plea for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents to leave the area, reiterating his statement during a press conference. “They’re already attempting to frame this as self-defense,” he commented. “I watched the video, and I want to be clear: that’s just wrong.”

“I have a message for ICE: Get out of Minneapolis!” Frey stated emphatically. “We don’t want your presence here. You claim to offer security, but the reality is you are causing harm. Families are being disrupted, and members of our community who have contributed significantly are feeling threatened—and now someone has lost their life.”

Continuing, he underscored ICE’s responsibility for the violence and urged them to prevent further harm. He identified the deceased as a 37-year-old woman, noted to be a U.S. citizen, while blaming ICE for the chain of events. However, Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security Tricia McLaughlin provided a different perspective.

She stated that the ICE officers were carrying out a planned operation when they were confronted by a crowd, and one individual allegedly attempted to run down an officer with a vehicle. “This act should be considered domestic terrorism,” she expressed in a statement.

Footage circulating on social media captures the moment prior to the gunfire, showcasing the tense atmosphere. McLaughlin defended the actions of the ICE officer, claiming it was a necessary response to save lives, noting that the officer expects to recover fully.

Frey dismissed the DHS’s narrative, labeling it as “ridiculous.” He remarked, “They are trying to justify this as self-defense, but I’ve seen the footage, and that is simply not true.” He insisted that the actions taken by the agent were reckless, resulting in the unfortunate death of the woman.
