Mayorkas: DHS hasn’t received credible threats involving Swift at Super Bowl

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said Wednesday that he is likely to be in attendance to cheer on the Kansas City Chiefs and tight end Travis Kelce. The ministry confirmed it had not received any threats.

Mayorkas addressed the recent backlash over Swift’s viability in NFL games and whether there is any “credible” threat as a result, during a press conference Wednesday ahead of Super Bowl III in Las Vegas. I was asked about what.

“We’re not. We’re also going to defer to our partners across law enforcement,” Mayorkas said. “But when we gather 65,000 people in a stadium, when 330,000 people come to a city for a major sporting event, and when millions of people watch games around the world, we must be extremely vigilant. I have to say…Our priority is the safety and security of everyone in attendance, that’s what we’re focused on.”

“And with the addition of even more high-profile celebrities, we are already on high alert and taking responsibility every day,” he added.

When Swift and Kelce’s relationship became public last year, there was a lot of criticism, with some people upset about the attention Swift received during an NFL game she attended.
