Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on Sunday responded to a “Saturday Night Live” skit that poked fun at President Biden’s age.

“SNL” depicted Mayorkas interviewing CNN’s Dana Bash, which ultimately took place on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday morning.

On the show, the actor who played Mayorkas denied claims that Biden was moving slowly near the border during last week’s trip, saying the president had performed superhuman feats of agility and strength. He said he saw it.

“Behind closed doors he is a dynamo,” the fake mayors said. “He went into beast mode and said, ‘We’ve got to tighten this border. Look, look how easily I can cross it.’ ” He then parkoured his way to the top of the border wall, did a front flip into the Rio Grande, and came back with a fish in his mouth. ”

Bash asked Mayorkas about the sketch Sunday morning, asking, “Is that something that happens every day?”

“Sometimes you need a little comic relief, and I think George Clooney did a great job,” Mayorkas said, adding in his own joke. Mayorkas was actually played by Marcello Hernandez.

Bash points out that while many Americans are concerned about Biden’s age, administration officials tend to point out supposed examples of presidential vitality that are not visible to the public. He pointed out that there is a grain of truth to the joke. Mr. Mayorkas continued this trend against Mr. Bash.

“They should spend some time with Joe Biden like I did,” he responded before introducing an anecdote. “He is very detail-oriented, inquisitive, and task-focused, so I prepare a lot for meetings and appointments with him.”

“But you can’t fish in the Rio Grande?” Bash asked.

“It’s not for me,” Mayorkas said.
