Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Christopher Wray refuse to testify before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee on terrorist threats facing the United States did.
Hours before both men were scheduled to testify before the Senate on Thursday, a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson said Mayorkas and Wray would be scheduled for a hearing focused on the terrorist threats facing the United States, including those arriving at the southern border. He announced that he would not be attending the meeting.
“DHS and the FBI have proposed a confidential meeting with the committee to discuss threats to the homeland,” the spokesperson said in part.
In response, Ranking Member Rand Paul (R-Ky.) called Mayorkas and Wray's refusal to testify “unacceptable.”
“Americans must hold officials accountable for their actions under the Biden administration,” Paul said in a statement.
Similarly, Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) said both men justified their refusal to testify by saying, “The threats facing the United States are so serious that they can only be discussed in a confidential manner.” .
“If that's true, they need to admit that the Biden-Harris administration is responsible for these grave dangers because of its open border policies,” Johnson said, along with Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) called them “cowards.”
“They are cowards. Mr. Mayorkas must face the American people and answer for his historic failure to allow two assassination attempts. [President-elect Donald Trump] And we've created wide open borders that allow terrorists, criminals, and deadly drugs like fentanyl to flow into our communities,” Scott said. “He made America less safe.”
“I look forward to Coach Ray's resignation,” Hawley said.
“Secretaries Mayorkas and Wray’s refusal to publicly testify before the Senate today is an outrageous act and a brazen attempt to evade oversight of political abuses at FEMA, the FBI, and elsewhere,” Hawley said.
