Former Chairman Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif) said on Saturday that President Trump “beats the Democrats,” adding that it has become “leaderless” and that party members are “fighting between them.”
“That's a huge mess,” McCarthy said in a conversation with radio host John Catsimatidis on “The Cats Roundtable” on WABC 770 AM's “The Cats Roundtable.” “It wasn't just President Trump won the election. He's defeated the Democrats now,” he said.
“If you think about it, they're leaderless. There's no message, their votes continue to fall. They're fighting between them now,” he continued.
McCarthy added that House Minority Leader Rep. Hakem Jeffries (DN.Y.) and Senate minority leader Sen. Chuck Schumer (DN.Y.) have shown “weak leadership.”
The previous speaker went on to say that recently co-member meetings in Las Vegas Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (DN.Y.) and Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) are currently leading the party.
“The real Democratic leaders right now are the AOC and Bernie Sanders. They're the two who're getting the crowd,” he said.
“But his own party attacked him,” McCarthy responded to a question about Schumer in support of the StopGup bill that avoided the government shutdown earlier this month.
“What you're finding here means there's no leader in the house. What did Hakeum Jeffries do? He has no message. He can't make a decision. You were leading the Democrats now,” McCarthy said.
“I don't know how long Hakeem Jeffries and Schumer will be able to remain leaders. They're hiding,” he said.
The California Republican also said the Democratic leadership challenges show just how strong Trump is. “He secured the border, so his vote is strong, and that's what he said he would.”
McCarthy also denounces California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D), calling him a “chameleon,” and accusing him of “talking like a Republican,” and features a large number of Republicans on his new podcast, “This Is Gavin Newsom.”
“Gavin is the biggest chameleon I've ever lived in,” McCarthy said.
