McConnell Provides Health Update Amid Ongoing Rehabilitation
Senator Mitch McConnell has given an update on his health status, revealing that he has not yet received medical clearance to return to work, as stated by the Office of the Attending Physician.
The 84-year-old senator from Kentucky was hospitalized in June, which led to concerns about his wellbeing. He later clarified that his hospital stay was due to a fall and a mild case of pneumonia, occurring shortly after.
In a recent update, McConnell expressed his determination to get back to his Senate duties. He stated that he is actively engaging in physical therapy as advised by his doctors.
“I’m still working hard to get back to my full schedule of work in the Senate and in Kentucky, keeping up with intense physical therapy per my doctors’ orders,” McConnell mentioned.
While the OAP confirmed that McConnell has been discharged from the hospital, they emphasized that he is still undergoing physical therapy. His mobility continues to be affected by a polio diagnosis from his childhood.
“He is not yet medically cleared to leave the rehab facility and return to the office,” the OAP added.
Furthermore, McConnell announced that, due to his health, he will miss the Fancy Farm Picnic in Kentucky—a traditional event held on the first Saturday of August, known for its barbecue and bipartisan campaigning.
“There’s no place I’d rather be on the first Saturday in August than with the good people of western Kentucky, feasting on pork and mutton. When I first attended forty-two years ago, Fancy Farm was a pretty lonely place to be a Republican,” he reflected. “But my, how times have changed. Today, western Kentucky is a conservative Republican sea of red. So I hate that I’ll miss the fun this year, but I’m sending my best wishes to the St. Jerome community for a successful picnic,” he added. “As always, I appreciate all of your continued well wishes, and I’m looking forward to getting back to the Senate and to Kentucky soon.”
McConnell has served in the Senate since 1984 and has held leadership roles for both majority and minority parties from 2007 until last year.
