McDonald's manager noticed nothing unusual except for Luigi Mangione’s eyebrows before dialing 911.

Eyebrows Lead to Arrest of Suspected Murderer

Luigi Mangione’s prominent eyebrows were practically the only thing visible to those around him while he wore a mask at a fast-food restaurant. However, that was enough for some observant customers, as presented in court on Monday.

Patrons at the Altoona McDonald’s recognized his eyebrows as belonging to a suspect wanted in connection with a murder in New York City. They urged the restaurant manager to contact the police, according to recordings of the 911 call that were shared during the court session.

At around 9:15 a.m. on December 9, 2024, the restaurant manager told the operator, “It’s not an emergency, but we have a customer who thinks another customer resembles the CEO shooter from New York.”

Emergency personnel were informed the suspect was dressed in a black sweater, a medical mask, and a tan beanie, with only his eyebrows showing.

“All you can see is his eyebrows,” noted the manager, who has not been named.

“He’s in the back of the lobby by the restroom,” she explained during the call, which was included as pretrial evidence.

“Guys, I don’t know what to do here,” she added, expressing some hesitation.

Within minutes, two police officers arrived and began conversing with the man, later identified as 27-year-old Mangione. Court footage showed him taking bites of food while interacting with the officers. Shortly after, additional officers arrived, leading to his arrest.

The hearing that started on Monday will delve into Mangione’s claims about potential violations of his rights during the police search of his backpack and subsequent questioning before any warrant was secured.

He faces serious state charges related to the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, which occurred outside an investor conference.
