Maryland Governor Wes Moore said his top priority was rescuing the six construction workers who were on the scene when the Baltimore bridge collapsed.

Moore (D-Md.) released an update on the case Wednesday. In his speech, he praised the work of first responders. He also said authorities must end their relationship with the families of those presumed dead.

The governor said the investigation into Tuesday’s cargo ship collision is still in its early stages. But he promised to seek answers and accountability.

Mr. Moore also spoke about rebuilding efforts and emphasized the importance of building bridges to the national economy.

“This is a huge economic impact for the country,” Moore said. “That’s why when you see the whole country rallying around Maryland, rallying around Baltimore, they understand that the Port of Baltimore doesn’t just impact Maryland. I think it’s because I am.”

“This port handles more than 51 million tons of foreign cargo,” he continued. “It’s the largest in the country.”

The governor also said he has been overwhelmed by the support from other governors and philanthropists who have offered to help.
