Shakira Concert Attendees Warned of Measles Exposure
Fans who attended Shakira’s concert at MetLife Stadium are facing a health warning as it was recently discovered that a person with measles was present during the event.
The New Jersey Department of Health notified the public about possible exposure connected to a confirmed case of measles involving a non-resident who was at the concert while infectious.
This alert specifically targets those who were there on Thursday night into Friday morning.
Health officials noted that anyone exposed could start showing symptoms as late as June 6. Symptoms may include high fever, cough, runny nose, watery eyes, and a rash on the face or hairline appearing within five days post-infection.
Details such as the infected individual’s seat location, residence, and travel arrangements to the concert remain unclear. A recent strike by New Jersey Transit, which has now been resolved, resulted in a lack of bus and train services during Shakira’s performance, although some fans managed to travel via Coach USA buses from Port Authority.
While vaccines are effective in preventing measles, the World Health Organization states there is no specific treatment for this highly infectious yet preventable illness. Additionally, the New York State Department of Health has recorded five measles cases in New York City and six elsewhere in the state this year.
The situation in Texas is particularly concerning, with 722 confirmed cases reported as of Tuesday. Tragically, two unvaccinated children with no underlying health issues have died from measles in the state since late February, according to local health officials.
