CASS COUNTY, N.D. – North Dakota Health and Human Services (HHS) has confirmed two cases of measles in Cass County, raising the total number of cases in the state to 11 this year.
Both patients were unvaccinated and contracted measles while traveling internationally. One of the individuals is currently hospitalized. These cases are not linked to those reported in Williams County.
Members of the public who visited the following locations in Cass County during specific times may have been exposed:
Essentia Health – The Lights West Fargo Clinic (3150 Sheyenne St., Ste. 240, West Fargo, ND) on May 7 between 2:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. The clinic’s east entrance is shared with Bar Down Sports Bar and Restaurant.
Essentia Health Walk-in Care – 52nd Avenue (4110 51st Ave. S, Fargo, ND) on May 9 from 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
In cooperation with Essentia Health, HHS is working to identify those who may have been exposed. Vaccinated individuals do not need to quarantine but should monitor for symptoms for 21 days post-exposure. Those who have not received at least one dose of the measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) vaccine are advised to quarantine and observe for symptoms during the same period.
“The MMR vaccine is 93% effective after one dose and 97% after two doses,” noted Molly Howell, HHS immunization director. “Vaccinated people who are exposed to measles are unlikely to contract the disease. Getting vaccinated is crucial to prevent the spread of measles in our communities. Anyone eligible who hasn’t been vaccinated should reach out to a trusted healthcare provider for MMR vaccination.”
