Mecole Hardman had his best moment in the 2024 Super Bowl, only to see it wasted on the next play.
The Jets drifter made one of the Chiefs’ biggest plays in the first half against the 49ers on Sunday night.
Patrick Mahomes completed a 52-yard pass to Hardman, bringing Kansas City to the San Francisco 9-yard line for the game’s longest reception to that point.
The Chiefs caught up at a crucial point in the first half trailing 3-0, but the excitement didn’t last long.
On the very next play, Isaiah Pacheco ran up the left side of the field to advance the ball and fumbled.
Deomodore Lenoir flicked the ball away and recovered the fumble to give the 49ers the ball back.
The Chiefs grabbed a break with the 49ers having to punt the ball away on their next possession.
The catch was Hardman’s only reception of the game up to that point, and it looked like the former Jet would change the course of the game.
Hardman signed with Gang Green during the offseason and started the year, but things never went as he or the team expected.
The Jets never really utilized him and traded him to the Chiefs in October.
“Things definitely didn’t go the way I wanted them to. I guess I just wasn’t on the same page as everyone,” Hardman said earlier this week about his time with the Jets. . “There’s no bad blood there. I’m happy for everyone there. I’m still good friends with some of them. I wish them the best. I think things happened the way they were supposed to.”
Although the Jets’ season ended in Week 18, it was clear that things finally worked out for Hardman, who was playing in the 2024 Super Bowl on Sunday.
