We're about 50 days away from the presidential election. Can we refrain from assassinating Donald Trump for the next seven weeks? If you're wondering if we're living in a banana republic, rest assured: we're officially in it.
Reports are coming out about what happened during the second assassination attempt on President Trump in Florida on Sunday. Early reports say police found an AK-47 in the bushes outside the golf course where the president was playing, and a GoPro recorder attached to a fence pointing toward the putting green. Why would someone have a GoPro recorder if they weren't planning on recording the assassination attempt and immortalizing their actions?
If this doesn't reveal the dangerous game being played by our nation's political elites, I don't know what does.
Was there anything else on the GoPro? Did the would-be assassin make a statement? Why did he record what he did instead of recording a message for everyone to hear? If there was anything on the GoPro, I would like to know because this guy clearly had an agenda.
Using their keen eyes, Secret Service agents spotted a gun barrel protruding from the bushes surrounding the golf course. The suspect, later identified as Ryan Wesley Routh, had two backpacks tied to the fence on either side of where he was sitting. The gun barrel would have been right in the middle of the backpacks.
The media only reported that he had ceramic tiles in his backpack, but gave no further details. Maybe they didn't want to report the fact that he put ceramic tiles in his bulletproof vest because he was expecting to be shot in the chest. A bulletproof vest doesn't stop a high powered rifle. But ceramic tiles can. That's why he put ceramic tiles in his backpack where he would be crouching with his gun. He was expecting a gunfight.
How did the Secret Service agent see the gun? I don't know, but I'm going to take it at face value and believe he was doing his job. I say this because I was with Trump on Saturday, Posted to X This was the first time in 15 years that I've seen the Secret Service actually do their job. I've been a critic of this for 15 years, but Saturday was the first time I thought they were taking it seriously. You couldn't attend the event unless you were an invited guest, and you definitely couldn't get close to the President.
So what happened?
I'd like to believe the Secret Service was doing their job. Agents were reportedly scouting the area a step or two ahead of Trump when he noticed a gun barrel sticking out of some bushes. The agents fired at Rouse. Reports say Rouse did not return fire and fled. No shots were fired at the president.
Someone witnessed Routh fleeing the bushes and getting into a vehicle, wrote down the license plate number, and remembered the make and model of the car. The witness immediately called police with this information, and police quickly arrested Routh.
Who is Ryan Routh, President Trump's second would-be assassin? His son Oran said his father Oran hates Donald Trump “like all decent people do.” It's highly suggestive that this was his immediate reaction to hearing that his father had tried to kill the president. But Oran maintains that his father was a hard-working, decent, non-violent man, and that he's never heard him own a gun.
Orlan, I know you don't know your dad, but you may find it interesting that in 2002, Ryan Routh barricaded himself in his office with a fully automatic machine gun and had a three-hour standoff with police. The FBI said Routh possessed “weapons of mass destruction.” He was sent to prison, but not to jail. Possession of an automatic weapon without the proper permit typically carries a prison sentence of $1-2 million. 10 and 20 year sentencesWhy did he get such a short sentence and never go to prison?
His son also said his father was a pacifist. Did he know that his father flew to Ukraine to recruit Afghan soldiers for the Ukrainian war effort?
Mr Oran made the shocking comments after learning of the attempt on his father's life.
I hate this game that plays out every four years, and I think we all do, and if my dad wants to be a martyr for how broken this process is and how divorced it is from real problems and practical solutions, that's his choice.
He continued:
South Park says it best: every four years we have to choose between a poop sandwich and a giant turd, and they're all more or less equally messed up, and we're exhausted and embarrassed by it all.
So do the ends justify the means? That's what I'm asking here.
The media has promoted a dangerous rhetoric that paints Trump as a dictator and an imminent threat to democracy. Ryan Rouse was the second person to be inspired by this propaganda, convinced that removing Trump would save democracy. His son's instinctive reaction upon hearing the news about his father was one of justification and understanding, not outright condemnation. If this doesn't reveal the dangerous game our political elites are playing, I don't know what does.
