Media's Sole Motivation for Targeting Eric Swalwell Is to Assist Democrats

Media Attention on Swalwell’s Allegations: A Closer Look

The recent reports regarding sexual assault allegations against Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) seem to be largely driven by polling in the California gubernatorial race. This appears to be the main motivation behind the coverage.

It’s quite perplexing, really. These allegations have lingered as an “open secret” for some time. So, where has the media been all these years?

When Swalwell was seen as a useful voice for the media—especially in delivering narratives about Donald Trump—these allegations were largely overlooked. I wonder, what changed?

It seems like many people have known about the situation for a while, and now it’s only surfacing because it’s politically convenient. Some media outlets have admitted to being aware of the allegations, which raises questions about their motivations.

Recently, Democratic activist Cheyenne Hunt mentioned that she had heard whispers about Swalwell just before the gubernatorial race. She recounted that she received strong warnings about avoiding him. It felt like people were suddenly more expressive about their experiences with him.

The number of women sharing their stories seems to be on the rise, with many expressing feelings of isolation until now.

Swalwell’s public denial of the allegations is quite striking. He emphasized that these claims are entirely false and suggested there’s a political motive behind them, coinciding with his candidacy for governor.

He acknowledged past mistakes but insisted that he had not engaged in any of the behavior he’s been accused of, framing it as a personal statement directed at the allegations.

While he denies the sexual assault allegations, it’s hard to ignore that he seems to admit to behaving inappropriately in other contexts. This brings to mind the broader cultural conversation around the #MeToo movement, which aims to hold those in power accountable for their actions, consensual or otherwise.

Now, the media’s response raises eyebrows. It seems they had no problem shielding Swalwell when it suited their narrative—primarily because of his party affiliation and his vocal criticisms of opponents.

However, with the California gubernatorial election looming and the potential for a Republican victory, it appears the media and Democratic Party felt compelled to act against Swalwell as a strategic measure.

The upcoming June 2nd primary isn’t typical, as the top two vote-getters, regardless of party, enter the general election. This raises valid concerns about the electoral landscape in California, with polls suggesting a chance for two Republicans to advance, which would be a significant shift.

In light of this, Swalwell’s declining approval ratings seem to have prompted a quick response, sacrificing him in order to safeguard the party’s prospects. If he were polling higher, perhaps the media silence would have continued.

As troubling as this situation is, one can’t help but feel that this isn’t about justice or truth. Instead, it appears to revolve around the strategic interests of the Democratic Party.
