Tragic Death of Texas A&M Student Briana Aguilera Ruled a Suicide
The Travis County Coroner’s Office has ruled that Briana Aguilera, a Texas A&M student, took her own life by falling from a high-rise building in Austin last November. This conclusion aligns with initial police assessments, but Aguilera’s family is contesting it, claiming the ruling is fundamentally flawed.
Aguilera, 19, died early on November 29 after plummeting from an apartment during a Texas A&M vs. University of Texas football game.
Authorities stated, “The Austin Police Department is aware that the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office has issued a final autopsy report ruling the death a suicide.” They added that their investigation is ongoing and emphasized that further information would not be released until it is completed.
The family’s legal representatives have consistently suggested that Aguilera was murdered, even in light of a supposed suicide note and a troubling text from a friend encouraging her to end her life that evening.
Following the coroner’s findings, attorney Tony Buzbee criticized the investigation. He noted, “Since Briana’s tragic death, there has been immense support for her and her family, along with considerable criticism directed at authorities for the way they have handled this case.”
Buzbee pointed out several failings in the investigation, contending that the Austin Police did not adequately examine phone records or interview all witnesses, which raises questions about the accuracy and reliability of their work. “Brianna deserves better. Her family deserves better,” he stated.
The Buzbee Law Firm filed a lawsuit on January 5 regarding Aguilera’s death, seeking to compel witnesses to provide testimony and records.
“We will carry out an investigation that the police and other authorities have failed to conduct,” Buzbee asserted. “This will ensure that Brianna and her family receive the answers they deserve, despite the imperfect conclusions of the medical examiner.”
