Hospital Ratings in Missouri
Ozark, Missouri – Recent assessments rate hospitals across 46 regions based on various performance metrics, from treatment of heart attacks and pneumonia to readmission rates.
Mercy Hospital Springfield scored 3 out of 5 stars. The hospital exceeded expectations regarding outpatient return visits post-surgery. However, it has fallen short of the national average for admission rates related to outpatient chemotherapy.
Cox Health Springfield also received a rating of 3 out of 5 stars. Its outpatient surgery return visit rate was better than expected, yet it struggled with the percentage of patients leaving the emergency room before being seen, which was worse than the national average.
Coxhealth provided a statement to KY3, expressing pride in their star ratings. They emphasized their three-star rating for Cox South and highlighted the performance of Branson at Cox Medical Center as above average.
“The latest CMS Star Quality Rating is now available. We are proud of our hospital performance. The star ratings released today are part of a continuous quality journey at the heart of everything we do for our patients,” the statement read. “External rating agencies provide useful snapshots, but ultimately the most important thing for us is to ensure the highest quality care of all the patients we serve.”
Civic Memorial Hospital in Bolivar earned a commendable 4 out of 5 stars, with top ratings for timely and effective care. Still, it fell short of the national average concerning the care patients receive for severe sepsis.
The CMH shared that obtaining this rating for the second consecutive year demonstrates their commitment to high-quality patient care. They reaffirmed that quality and safety are daily priorities, with the rating reflecting the team’s dedication.
Interestingly, only 36.4% of the nearly 2,900 hospitals evaluated earned 4 stars or higher. In Missouri, 29 hospitals were rated at that level, with CMH being among three in southwestern Missouri, including Cox Medical Center Branson and Mercy Hospital Lebanon.
