Meet the new boss, same as the old boss

The Democrats have a lot of problems, but they are working on solving them. They solved Joe Biden’s problems on Sunday when he announced he was withdrawing his presidential nomination. They are no closer to solving the election problems, and they know it. Biden basically put a bomb in the gift box, and the assassination attempt on Donald Trump ruined it.

But at least the Kamala Harris issue may be resolved, here’s how this all plays out.

The July 13 assassination attempt on President Trump instantly shattered national, public and celebrity support for the man who had been demonized for eight years by Democrats, Hollywood and the media.

First, the booby traps. Remember when Biden nominated Harris to be his immigration chief? Her aides were furious and leaked information about her to the press. They lamented that the political realities of the Democratic base meant politicians couldn’t work on a real, workable solution to the border problem. It was political sabotage, they lamented.

To make matters worse, Kamara showed no interest in doing the work, and would not even read the report compiled by his staff (which was also leaked).

Biden’s aim, they suggested, was to insure his running mate and stifle his ambitions. In fairness to the Biden campaign, Harris’ weak political support (she finished last in the 2016 Democratic primary) was made up for by her savage ambition (she didn’t hesitate to call Joe a racist during the primary).

Given the party’s support for Kamala Harris despite her issues, it is crucial to understand the realities they have faced.First, Joe Biden lost to Donald Trump even before the disastrous debates that burst the dam and caused Democrats to openly criticize their nominee, and that was because of his own record. Harris has that record and must defend it.

Who else will take the job next? The July 13 assassination attempt on Trump has caused a burst of national, public and even celebrity support for the man the Democratic Party, Hollywood and the media have demonized for eight years. With less than four months until the presidential election, that will change the calculations for leading Democrats considering entering the race.

If you were the governor of California, for example, would you jump from a ship that was half afloat to one that was clearly on fire and in danger, or would you wait for the next opportunity? This reality bolstered Harris. Democrats knew they needed someone. Anyone — Few others wanted the job.

And then there’s the issue of money. We’ve discussed this before. Kamala’s got money. But that doesn’t mean Republicans won’t challenge that. Republican absolutely IntentionBut ultimately, Kamala is almost certain to get the money because it will satisfy donors who support her — and it could help her in the House and Senate, where many Democrats have higher hopes.

The first task was the most difficult. Biden was fired from his post in 2016. The job was also helped by Biden’s deteriorating health, which led to his brother, Frank Biden, stepping down as president. talked Just enjoy the time you have left.

By the way, his brother’s candor was spot on. The Biden campaign has openly He called Frank an alcoholic. You can’t deny it. You can’t make up stories about these people.

The second challenge was preventing an all-out civil war within the Democratic Party after Biden was gone, which was as difficult as ousting Biden but made easier by the assassination attempt narrowing the list of candidates willing to run on short notice in an increasingly difficult race.

The third challenge is closely related to all of Biden’s failures, winning with a candidate who is especially tainted on the issues Americans are most angry about (immigration) and guilty of propping up the president and openly lying about his obviously dire mental health. Democrats had to turn to Harris, a VP pick to satisfy their identity politics. They’ve been hiding a Hillary-esque politician for the past four years, and at some point they’ll have to give her a chance. That’s what it’s like going into a race where most Democrats aren’t sure they’ll win.

And in some ways, it may resolve one last lingering issue: what to do about Harris. If she wins, it won’t be a problem — Republicans should take this seriously — or if she loses, it opens the door to the next Democratic leader, which is one way to win on a bad day.
