Global megachurch leader Pastor Enoch Adeboye recently warned members of his Nigeria-based Redeemed Christian Church of God to “flee youthful lust,” referring to recent sexual abuse allegations against Robert Morris, founder and former pastor of the Gateway Church. “The Bible says: 2 Timothy 2:22“Flee youthful lust. When it comes to sexual temptation, don’t fight it, flee it,” said Adeboye, who is general overseer of the church around the world, including Africa, Europe and North America. Recent Sermons.
“Remember a few years ago when a man of God was accused of rape? I told my kids, I don’t think he committed rape. … I’m sure he did something, but did he force it?” [No.]” he argued.
according to The Christian StandtHe added that he also warned his children, especially his sons, to be vigilant in dealing with sexual temptations.
“I have warned my children, especially my boys, that if the devil comes at you, tell him to get out. If a girl gives you a shy smile, run because you cannot win the fight. … Some of you will be saying, Dad, what are you talking about? Are you telling me you are running away? [sex]? I say [run] “Fasting? Without anointing? Does anointing turn your body to stone?” he asked, pointing to the story of Samson.
“Samson was anointed. He killed 1,000 men by himself. And a woman killed him,” Adeboye asserted.
“I hope the boys are listening, everywhere you go you see that woman smiling at you? She’s there smiling, but she’s not your wife. Run!” the megachurch leader said.
“And you girls, when this guy comes along and I see you guys and he starts saying, where have you been? It’s like the sun has come out. He calls you guys the sun. He [is] Finishing touches[ed] “With you, you wouldn’t know the difference between sun and sunset. You can laugh, just trust me when I say that,” he insisted.
Adeboye said even though he is now 82 years old, he could still fall into the trap of sexual temptation if he is not careful.
“Someone said to me, ‘You’re still running at your age?’ I’m running faster than ever,” he said.
“Why? Because the closer you get to the goal, the more careful you have to be. Write that down. I’m not kidding. Is anyone still interested? [in] “An 82-year-old man?” he asked.
“The devil is not interested in you,” he said, explaining how the devil operates. “He is interested in you to finish off all the great works that God has done through you.”
He then addressed the allegations against Mr Morris, without naming him.
“Didn’t you read in the paper about 42 years ago that a guy committed a crime or something and his ministry ended?” he said.
“Everybody says whatever you did is hidden. It’s hidden until the wind blows,” Adeboye explained, “Don’t say daddy didn’t tell you. I did.” [the] The Bible says:[s] “Flee from youthful desires. Flee. God is not saying that grace is enough to stay. There is no grace in what God says you should flee from. There may be grace to flee.”
Last month, 54-year-old Cindy Klemischer Alleged Morris allegedly sexually abused her over a period of four and a half years in the 1980s, beginning when she was 12. The allegations were first made public in 1987 and Morris retired from ministry, only to return two years later.
When asked about the allegations, The Christian StandtMorris confessed to having engaged in “inappropriate sexual conduct with a young woman” more than 35 years ago, and returned to pastoral ministry after expressing remorse.
But Cremisher maintained that she was not a young woman at the time Morris abused her.
“I was 12 years old, a little girl – a very innocent girl – and he was brought into our home. He and his wife, Debbie, and their young son, Josh, trusted the church that my father had helped start, preached there, and then started to get us all to do it. It took me decades as an adult to figure it out,” she told CP.
“This went on for years. He claims there was no intercourse but he touched every part of my body and inserted his fingers. I now understand that it is considered a form of instrumental rape. I was an innocent 12-year-old girl who knew nothing about sex.”
Now, Gateway Church in Southlake, Texas, is conducting an independent investigation into Klemisher’s claims, years after he first contacted Morris through a Gateway email and demanded compensation.
“Gateway leadership was actually made aware of this crime in 2005 when I emailed Robert Morris directly to his Gateway email address. Former Gateway elder Tom Lane received my email and responded, acknowledging that the sexual abuse began on Dec. 25, 1982, when I was 12 years old,” Klemischer said. statement He has already been released by his lawyer, Boz Tchividjian.
“Also in 2007, my then attorney, Gentner Drummond (now the Attorney General of Oklahoma), wrote to Robert Morris asking him to help compensate me for the thousands of dollars I spent on counseling as a result of this abuse. His attorney also acknowledged the date and attempted to shift the responsibility for the abuse onto me,” she alleged.
“At least one pastor and at least one elder at Gateway had specific knowledge that I had been sexually abused beginning at the age of 12. Gateway had that information but knowingly chose to accept the false narrative that Robert Morris wanted to believe.”
