Meghan Markle Faces Criticism for Sharing Family Photos
Meghan Markle recently shared pictures of her children enjoying time at the late Princess Diana’s childhood home, though she faced backlash for it, with some experts deeming her actions “in bad taste.”
This week, Markle took to Instagram to post about her family’s trip to England, captioning it “Summer vacation.” One notable image shows Prince Harry and their children strolling down a grassy path surrounded by hedges and tall trees. It’s believed that this photograph was captured at Althorp, the Spencer family’s ancestral estate.
In the picture, both Archie and Prince Harry are seen holding bouquets of flowers, hinting that they may have visited Princess Diana’s burial site, located on an island within the estate.
British royal expert Hilary Fordwich noted that Prince William is likely “furious” about Markle’s post. She expressed that not only is the commercialization of Althorp upsetting, but it also further complicates relations between the family.
“Prince William is not only likely to be furious at the commercialization of Althorp with such a tasteless post, but he will also block any wholesale re-entry as it only fuels his disgust,” she stated. Fordwich added that palace aides and officials will strive to limit any influence from Meghan and Harry.
Another royal expert, Richard Fitzwilliams, suggested that sharing photos from Althorp was permissible as the Spencer family presumably gave their approval for the visit. He mentioned that Harry and Meghan have largely remained quiet following their meeting with King Charles and Queen Camilla.
Fitzwilliams acknowledged: “Meghan shared photos of her children in what appears to be Althorp. That would have been authorized by the Spencer family and is, therefore, permissible.” He indicated that any media commentary following their meeting would have led to further complications.
Helena Chard, a broadcaster and photographer, remarked that Markle’s choice to publicly post private family moments was not unexpected. “This is a predictable move, linking it to history without using a title, showing some tension between wanting royal narratives when they’re beneficial and distancing themselves when they’re not,” she said.
During their recent UK visit, it’s reported that Harry and Meghan reconnected with King Charles, who hadn’t seen his grandson since 2022. Yet, views on their potential return to royal duties remain divided. Fordwich speculated that while Charles may wish to reintegrate Harry, it’s unlikely he will reclaim a significant role.
Chard expressed skepticism about Harry’s acceptance back into royal life. She stated that without appropriate acknowledgment of past grievances, moving forward remains a challenge. “Family reunion and return to royal life are two different things,” she concluded, suggesting that an apology might be necessary for true reconciliation.
