Duchess Meghan Teases Holiday Special for Netflix Series

Duchess Meghan recently opened up about the future of her Netflix series during the Fortune magazine’s Most Powerful Women Summit in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday. She hinted at an upcoming “holiday special,” though she didn’t confirm if “With Love, Meghan Markle” would return for a third season.

“The holiday special will be released in November,” she shared. “And it’s a really good one. When you look at that format, with a year of learning behind us, I think eight episodes over two seasons is quite a bit of work.” She seemed optimistic about the progress.

Reflecting on her past, she remarked, “Having played Suits for seven years, I remembered how to create a movie.” The lifestyle show, which Markle hosts and produces, was filmed in Montecito, California, and featured appearances from celebrities like Mindy Kaling and Chrissy Teigen.

The first season of “With Love, Meghan Markle,” released on March 4, received rather harsh criticism. Season 2, which debuted on August 26, also faced negative reviews and didn’t even manage to break into the top 10 list on the streaming platform.

“We’re also noticing that people want content in various formats,” Markle continued. “So we’re testing ideas: yes, it’s nice to sit down for a 30-minute show, but how can we deliver a recipe in just two minutes? We want to explore all possibilities for how that could look.”

Markle and Prince Harry had originally signed a $100 million deal with Netflix back in 2020, but their recent contract, which was extended in August, is reportedly worth much less than their initial arrangement.

“Initially, my husband and I had an overall deal with Netflix, similar to the Obamas’ deal with Higher Ground. After that deal expired, we received an extension, which was a strong sign of our partnership. Now, we have a first-look deal,” Markle explained at the summit.

“This new arrangement is appealing because it gives us the flexibility to collaborate with partners early on, and also to acquire content that may not fit with Netflix, but works elsewhere,” she added. “We’ve been doing extensive development for both unscripted and scripted content to fit various needs.”

Under their original Netflix agreement, the couple released several projects, including the documentary series “Harry & Meghan” and Harry’s documentary “Polo,” which faced significant criticism before it was canceled in December 2024.

When they announced their new deal with Netflix this summer, they confirmed plans for the upcoming release of “With Love, Meghan: A Holiday Celebration” and the documentary “Masaka Kids, A Rhythm Within,” focusing on orphans in Uganda.
