Meghan Markle Reflects on Relationship with Prince Harry
Meghan Markle recently celebrated her nearly decade-long romance by sharing a heartfelt video with her husband, Prince Harry. She also included throwback photos of their memorable moments together.
On Saturday, the Duchess of Sussex participated in a popular online trend called “2026 is the new 2016,” where participants post nostalgic photos from ten years ago. Earlier this year, she had shared a black-and-white video featuring her dancing with Prince Harry, along with an image from their trip to Botswana back in 2016.
In her post, Markle wrote, “When 2026 feels like 2016… you had to be there,” and humorously noted that their four-year-old daughter, Princess Lilibet, recorded the video.
In the clip, Markle donned loose shorts and a short-sleeved shirt, while Harry wore a T-shirt and pants. The video shows her dancing towards him across a lush lawn before they share a warm embrace. As they dance together, Harry lifts Markle and twirls her around against the backdrop of a lovely setting.
Set to Olivia Dean’s song “So Easy (To Fall in Love),” the video beautifully captures the couples’ affection, concluding with Harry lifting Markle, who wraps her legs around him.
The next slide in Markle’s social media carousel featured an older photo of the couple smiling and embracing in what appeared to be a puddle during their adventure in the savannah.
Markle and Prince Harry first met during a blind date in July 2016, thanks to a mutual friend. They instantly connected and quickly went on back-to-back dates. Shortly after, Prince Harry invited Markle to join him for a camping trip in Botswana.
Reflecting on that time, Harry shared, “I think I was able to convince her to come to Botswana with me after about three or four weeks. We spent five incredible days camping together under the stars.” Markle added, “We would take long walks and just talk.” Harry mentioned realizing quickly that Markle was “the one.”
Things were relatively private at first, with Markle stating that the initial five or six months of their relationship gave them the chance to connect deeply despite the long-distance aspect. During that time, they managed to see each other frequently.
Markle first publicly acknowledged her relationship with Prince Harry in an interview with Vanity Fair in October 2017, stating simply, “We are a couple, and we love each other.” They got engaged in November 2017 and married in May 2018, eventually welcoming their son, Archie, in May 2019. Their daughter, Lilibet, was born in June 2021.
In January 2020, the couple made headlines when they announced their decision to step back from their royal duties. They currently reside in Montecito, California, where they enjoy family life with their two children.
