Meghan Markle’s Holiday Special Faces Mixed Reactions

Meghan Markle is set to spread some holiday cheer through her upcoming Netflix special, despite a fair amount of skepticism surrounding the project.

The Duchess of Sussex will premiere her holiday celebration, titled “With Love, Meghan Markle: A Holiday Celebration,” on December 3. Viewers can expect her to engage in decorating, crafting, and cooking with notable guests such as tennis star Naomi Osaka, Top Chef judge Tom Colicchio, and producer Lindsay Ross.

British broadcaster Helena Chard shared her thoughts with Fox News Digital, suggesting that Meghan aims to establish a sort of “new American royal family.” She expressed disbelief that the American public seems to be taking Meghan’s endeavors seriously.

“Meghan appears to be living as a fictional bohemian princess,” Chard remarked. She also noted that while the holiday special will spotlight Meghan’s ability to create a welcoming environment, many in the UK worry this may highlight her own feelings of disconnect, especially during the holiday season.

Meghan, who joined the British royal family by marrying Prince Harry in 2018, stepped back from royal duties in 2020. The couple’s decision was largely influenced by intense media scrutiny and perceived lack of support from the royal institution. Following their departure, they moved to Montecito, California, where they continue building their brand.

Since leaving royal life, Meghan has focused on her lifestyle brand, As Ever, while also working on their lucrative partnership with Netflix, which includes a five-year, $100 million deal. Their series “Harry & Meghan,” a five-part documentary, provided an inside look at their struggles with royal life and their lives in California.

Experts point out that, despite her lifestyle ventures, Meghan retains her title as duchess. “This looks like a calculated move to create an American lifestyle ‘princess’ brand,” said royal expert Hilary Fordwich, highlighting that such commercial efforts could irritate Prince William.

Fordwich further compared Meghan’s upcoming special to the more duty-oriented festivities of the royal family, saying it feels more like advertising than the royal family’s focus on service and unity during the holidays. Notably, just days after Meghan’s special airs, Kate Middleton will host her annual carol service at Westminster Abbey.

This event, “Together at Christmas,” is dedicated to honoring those who have shown kindness in their communities, revealing a sharp contrast to Meghan’s more personal approach.

Chard criticized Meghan’s holiday show, stating it does not align with the genuine service associated with the British royal family. She expressed skepticism over whether the British royals would be interested in Meghan’s forthcoming special.

Despite the controversy, Meghan seems committed to building her personal brand rather than revisiting royal duties. Recent reports indicate she has even made a cameo in an Amazon film, which adds to her growing portfolio in entertainment.

Meghan’s holiday special promises a feel-good atmosphere, featuring friends and family coming together for decorations, cooking, and crafting.

As discussions continue about the impact of Meghan’s project on her relationship with the royal family, the sentiment remains mixed about her endeavors in the limelight outside of royal obligations.
