Royal experts have suggested that if Meghan returns to the UK, it would only be under specific conditions. Prince Harry is keen for his wife to join him in Birmingham this summer, marking a year since the Invictus Games. However, there hasn’t been a decision regarding her travel to the UK in July. A spokesperson for Archewell mentioned that current reports are purely speculative.
Host of Kinsey Schofield Unfiltered, Kinsey Schofield, shared insights, indicating that Meghan would likely not travel unless assured of armed security, citing past concerns about their family’s safety. Harry has previously expressed worries about bringing Meghan and their children, Archie and Lilibet, without proper protection.
Schofield noted that if Meghan were to visit under the existing RAVEC protocol—which necessitates a 30-day notice for security assessments—adequate security for their Invictus Games appearance could be arranged. Yet, recent headlines suggesting that Meghan’s visit hinges on a change in security measures seem to aim at swaying the current threat assessment, according to her.
While Harry typically has protection on his UK visits, the couple’s issues arise from the lack of automatic protection, which they find inconvenient given their previous royal roles. Reports indicate that Harry’s refusal of full-time security might also change soon.
Sources have suggested that Harry’s safety concerns have been noted positively, hinting that King Charles may be open to reconsidering security arrangements for Harry and Meghan. However, royal family dynamics remain complicated; many believe Meghan would face a chilly reception from relatives should she choose to return.
Experts like Ian Pelham Turner mentioned ongoing negotiations that might allow Meghan and Harry to reunite with the family, emphasizing that security and treatment upon arrival are pivotal issues for her. Regardless, there’s skepticism about Meghan’s willingness to face public scrutiny in the UK, especially after past negative receptions.
Meghan’s last visit occurred in September 2022 for Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral, and since then, public sentiment towards her has largely soured. Observers expect that attending the Invictus Games could subject her to significant public backlash.
Meghan’s ability to win over the public and secure a favorable environment for her possible visit remains a daunting task, many believe. The road to reconciliation with the royal family appears narrow and fraught with challenges, especially considering previous tensions and ongoing family disputes.
Prince Harry is also expected in London soon for his legal proceedings against Associated Newspapers, but Meghan likely won’t be involved.
