Meghan McCain, daughter of the late Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), has been pressuring Vice President Harris, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, to address policy issues such as immigration and inflation rather than relying on personal attacks.
“No matter how much momentum and media support VP Harris has right now, I don’t see what excuse she has for our bullshit inflation and open borders with literal terrorists crossing,” she wrote on Saturday. In a post On social media platform X.

Over the past week, Democrats have focused on attacking Republicans as “wacky,” using the term in everything from campaign speeches to interviews.
The relatively young campaign has launched attacks on former President Trump and Vance, his 2024 running mate, but the campaign has yet to develop a full policy agenda. The “Issues” page on the campaign’s website is still in its infancy, and the vice president’s upcoming agenda remains unclear.
But Harris has distanced herself from policy positions she took during the 2020 presidential primary. For example, she no longer supports fracking, “Medicare for All,” and a federal gun buyback program, positions she took on earlier in the campaign trail.
Supporters of the campaign have also called on the vice president to stop using “prosecutors versus criminals” rhetoric in an attempt to use his background as a career prosecutor to fight Trump in court.
In their letter calling for her to disavow the attack, advocates urged her to make mass incarceration a top priority and noted her willingness to attend a presidential town hall on criminal justice reform hosted by the Marshall Project in 2019.
While Harris has been working on her pitch to appeal to a broad range of voters, Republicans have settled on the economy and immigration as their top issues to appeal to Americans.
“These are top issues for voters, and she must say how she will solve both of them,” McCain wrote Saturday.
