Megyn Kelly and Dan Abrams brawl over Trump conviction

Dan Abrams invited Megyn Kelly onto his NewsNation show on Thursday to discuss the conviction of former President Donald Trump in a Manhattan courtroom just hours earlier, which led to a heated debate over whether the conviction was legitimate.

When Abrams said Trump was violating campaign finance laws, Kelly fired back, “No! You don’t know what you’re talking about! You’re wrong!”

Trump was convicted by a Manhattan jury on Thursday on all 34 counts of falsifying business documents related to the hush money payments made to porn actress Stormy Daniels.

Kelly criticized Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, calling him a “partisan underling who doesn’t want to prosecute any crime unless it’s committed by a man named Trump.”

“The number of legal hurdles [Bragg] Kelly said the hurdles he had to overcome to even bring the lawsuit in the first place were “numerous.”

The SiriusXM host also slammed Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Juan Marchan, saying he was “complicit” in bringing “invalid” criminal charges against Trump.

Abrams countered that “there was certainly misconduct” by Trump, even if some would argue it did not rise to the level of criminal conduct.

“What was that?” Kelly asked.

Abrams responded: “What was wrong? First of all, paying a porn star $130,000 to silence her and protect her campaign. Can we at least agree that that’s wrong?”

“What went wrong?” Kelly replied.

“I don’t know what kind of strange marriage it is. [Donald and Melania Trump] “Just like I didn’t know what a strange marriage Bill and Hillary Clinton had,” Kelly added.

“So I don’t know what their contract is in terms of what the husband is allowed to do outside of the marriage.”

Abrams responded: “I’m not talking about sex. I’m talking about $130,000. [Stormy Daniels] He’s staying quiet to protect his campaign.”

Kelly countered that the payments were “not immoral” and that there was “nothing wrong with it at all. Nothing.”

Abrams then questioned whether Kelly thought Trump had broken the law by falsifying business records.

“I don’t know what he did,” Kelly said, to which Abrams replied, “What do you mean?! We just got out of trial! We heard every single detail about this! How could you not know?”

Kelly said hush payments “are not campaign contributions if they are made outside the context of campaign activities.”
