Megyn Kelly Challenges Jake Tapper on Biden’s Mental Decline
Megyn Kelly confronted Jake Tapper regarding his role in downplaying former President Joe Biden’s mental health issues during an appearance on her show. This came after Tapper embarked on a promotional tour for his book, which claims to expose the Biden White House’s efforts to obscure the president’s health concerns.
Tapper has faced criticism for defending the Biden administration, despite acknowledging that he didn’t adequately follow up on concerning signs regarding Biden’s mental state. “You didn’t follow up on the fact that he was going up the stairs and often lost his line of thought,” Kelly pressed during the interview.
As he was interviewed alongside co-author Alex Thompson, Kelly pointed out that right-wing critics had noticed lapses in Biden’s mental clarity—a viewpoint shared by various independent media outlets as well. Tapper didn’t shy away from acknowledging that this question was challenging and, perhaps, quite valid.
Following the election, Tapper explained how he and Thompson had conducted interviews with over 200 individuals, mostly Democrats, who justified their initial coverage. They believed that calling attention to Trump as an “existential threat” was crucial. However, after the election, this perspective seemed to shift.
During their conversation, Kelly pressed Tapper about his lack of questions regarding Biden’s condition in previous interviews. He conceded some oversight, saying, “I was wrong. I admit that I didn’t ask him everything I should have.” He recalled specifically asking for transparency about Biden’s health, only to find the president did not comply.
Despite Tapper’s acknowledgment, Kelly didn’t hold back. “You didn’t ask about the repeated instances of stumbling and confusion,” she insisted. Tapper, appearing humbled, accepted that he might have missed crucial aspects of Biden’s transparency regarding his health.
He further noted that he personally reached out to Lara Trump to address any misrepresentation in his comments about her accusations directed at Biden. “I own my mistakes,” he added, reflecting on how his views have evolved since that time.
