Discussion on U.S. Approach to Iran
Megyn Kelly, during an appearance on SiriusXM, remarked that Iranians have shown resilience, labeling them as “tough.” She also expressed concerns about military escalations, suggesting they would lead to excessive destruction.
On the same day, President Trump declared a two-week pause on military actions against Iran to facilitate diplomatic efforts as both parties aim for a temporary ceasefire. Kelly shared her thoughts on “Piers Morgan Uncensored,” emphasizing that the U.S. strategy towards Iran has been unsuccessful for a long time and should change.
Kelly characterized the agreement as a sort of capitulation from the U.S. perspective but welcomed it nonetheless. “It needed to end, whether it was pretty or not. Honestly, it was foolish from the start and has consistently been so,” she stated to Morgan.
Kerry pointed out that the U.S. decision to forgo military escalation was intended to prevent further loss of life and devastation.
“The Iranians turned out to be quite formidable and realized they possessed greater leverage than merely a nuclear weapon. They effectively controlled the Strait of Hormuz,” Kerry added.
Kerry noted that Trump had disregarded advice from military officials indicating that Iran wouldn’t easily crumble and could disrupt shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
“Before he engaged in this conflict, President Trump was cautioned by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff that it was improbable for Iranian forces to falter quickly and that they would likely maintain dominance over the Straits, which might trigger a global economic crisis,” Kerry said. “But he didn’t heed this advice. Instead, he rushed to Truth Social and claimed, ‘All Dan Cain does is win. If I order him to invade, he’ll win.’ That’s not at all what unfolded.”
Reportedly, a top U.S. general had forewarned Trump about Iran’s capability to block the Strait of Hormuz before tensions escalated further. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Kaine had warned that Tehran’s control over essential shipping routes could result in severe strategic and economic fallout if conflict erupted.
Trump, however, dismissed claims that Kaine had cautioned him about the significant risks of military intervention in Iran or the potential for a drawn-out conflict in the Middle East.
“There are many articles circulating from the fake news media that suggest General Daniel Cain opposes military action against Iran. This is entirely false because such a vast amount of information hasn’t been sourced appropriately,” Trump stated.
